Every year there are ups and downs but hopefully in most cases the good always outweighs the bad in any given year. We asked our readers to share their best memory of 2013. We have compiled a list of responses and have provided them below.

  • Kenji Freitas: Getting our adopted son Makana after years of waiting!
  • David Chuey: The completion of Special Havens state of the art multi-sensory room
  • Debbie Stevenson Petersen: My son graduating from high school, and my oncologist releasing me from care after 8 years!!!
  • Maribel Aparicio: Leaving an abusive relationship and finding myself again.
  • Terri Chapman: Going to Yosemite with my 87 year old dad and 86 year old mom for what is probably their last trip there and watching him point out the sights to mom who has Alzheimer’s and to his great-grandchildren.
  • Sabrina Vanvliet: My baby boy being born 4 days before my birthday! best gift yet.

  • Robert Bryson: We had a home built and moved into a great new neighborhood out in east Oakley. It was a Godsend to get away from our old neighborhood. Instead of hearing gunshots and constant traffic noises, now we enjoy the peace and quiet of rural Oakley with the sounds of cows and horses.

  • Heather Powell: Have many, but the best was the first time Jim told me he loved me.

  • Angela Keers: We bought our 2nd home and sold our first. Was so sad to sell our first we brought our daughter home here and lived there 12 yrs. The neighborhood. Went down hill so had no choice. But we live our new home and neighborhood . We are making new memories

  • Gloria E. Soto: My baby Leticia Marcella was born May 16, but that is the only good memory of 2013.
  • Dominic Filardo: Seeing 18 players from the Delta patriots East youth football team get academic award athlete recognition from the DYFL 18 team league. And Coach david Stanley of the varsity east selected as coach of the year from over 90 other coaches. Makes being a parent volunteer all the more enjoyable.
