Public Comment Invited on Clayton Morgan Territory Wildfire Action Plan

by ECT

The Clayton Morgan Territory Wildfire Action Plan is available for public review with copies available online at http://www.diablofiresafe.org/clayton-morgan-territory.html.  The plan is the product of six months of collaborative planning by a diverse stakeholder group.  Its goal is to coordinate efforts to reduce potential damage from wildfire in the area.

Morgan-Territory-Fire-hazardThe plan includes an analysis of wildfire threats to the City of Clayton and unincorporated areas along Morgan Territory and Marsh Creek Roads.  It recommends four types of actions to reduce wildfire hazards:

  1.  Information and education
  2. Enhancements to suppression capabilities and emergency preparedness
  3. Hazardous fuel reduction projects around homes, on public lands and along evacuation routes
  4. Actions homeowners can take to reduce ignitability and potential damage from wildfire.

The Diablo Fire Safe Council, a non-profit group focused on wildfire safety in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties, is looking for additional community input on the plan.  They have grant funding for fuel reduction projects this spring.

Cheryl Miller, Executive Coordinator with Diablo Fire Safe Council encouraged residents and business owners to take part in the review of the plan.  “There is a role for everyone in the community when it comes to fire safety.  The draft Fire Action Plan shows how different activities around your homes, businesses, community and open space can make a real impact to prevent and minimize the loss from wildfire.”

Comments on the plan are due by February 28th.  There will be a public meeting on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 from 10-noon at the Clayton Community Library, 6125 Clayton Road.

Written comments can be emailed to [email protected]. Questions can be directed to Cheryl Miller, Diablo Fire Safe Council with questions at (510) 282-1265.
