The following message was sent out by Rick Rogers, Superintendent of the Oakley School District in regards to a possible child abduction attempt at Orchard Park School in Oakley.

Here is the message

This is Rick Rogers Superintendent Oakley School District. A little while ago received a call from a school in Union School District Orchard Park located on Live Oak here in Oakley that there was an attempted abduction of a fourth grade girls the report was made to the police department and I’ve had contact with the chief of police and they are currently investigating a report. We are asking you to be on the lookout for a blue panel van with a male approximately thirty years old wearing a baseball cap with with possibly a forty nine or a white baseball cap with possibly a forty nine or a logo there’s some damage to the Blue Van on one of the bumpers I believe this is also an important reminder to have the stranger danger conversation with your children. In addition we’ll be sending home with the next school newsletter.

EDITORS NOTE: the text above was a voice transcribed into an email we received. When listening to the audio, it sounds fine, however, in text, it comes out differently.

Although Orchard Park School is located in Oakley, its considered part of the Antioch Unified School District.

Per a recording from Principal Didi Del Chiaro, she stated the incident occurred in the driveway of the school and the student was never touched by the subject and the incident was immediately reported.

Update 1:10 pm:
It appears the incident was first reported to the Oakley Police Department shortly before 8:00 am.

Way to focus Ryan, if we need to make posters or flyers we’ll count on you to proofread the text. Meanwhile, the rest of us will focus on the important things like watching for the van, and keeping an eye on our kids.

wow… apparently grammar is more important than a child almost being abducted…
any updates on the public apology for not proof reading…sheesh.
thankfully the child was not harmed.. and thank you for keeping us informed.

Thank you ECT! Some people get on here just to criticize others!!
The important thing is to get this message out to the public people!!

It’s a scary subject and I’m glad that nobody was hurt, but I agree with others – when a communication comes from the superintendant of the school district, I expect it to have complete sentences and appropriate grammar and spelling. And when the subject is as important as this one, misspelled words and incorrect grammar can result in misinterpretation and missed opportunities to catch the “bad guy”.

This was a recording…ever use voice text? If you have you will understand why things came across the way they did. I received this recording….it was perfectly fine. I promise you, Dr. Rogers would never speak in way that sounds this uneducated.

BIG B YOU JUST MADE MY DAY.

All you people that have issues with grammar are lame as. Are you listening?THERE IS A PREDATOR ATTEMPTING TO KIDNAP CHILDREN!!!!! If he’s actually successful in his attempts to steal a child how valuable is your grammar lessons in finding said child unharmed? There’s something for you to chew on.

My child attends this school. Even though he is in middle school I seriously sat him down again and talked to him. There should not be anything an adult needs to say to a kid that they do not know. We seriously have some sick people in this world. Our kids need to be safe always.

This is so serious. Just one week ago we just had a little 10 year old girl abducted off the street about 60 miles from our home. The abducter was found within 4 hours, but he had already killed the little girl. He grabbed her off the street. Fortunately witnesses got his license plate number, and one even chased him as far as he could but lost him in rush hour traffic. It still did not save her life. Her funeral was today. Be sure your children are aware of the danger of even talking to people on the street.

What are the schools going to do to help keep our kids safe? This happened out front but anyone can walk on campus and lure a child out. Kids are walking around during class, running errands to another class or office, using restroom….this is very dangerous.

Where were the teachers that should have been supervising the loop drop off? Doesn’t the school have surveillance cameras to get the license plate #?

Anita S Feb 27, 2014 - 8:29 am

I agree with Amy. Why wasnt there any yard duty, teacher staff to supervise drop offs? I live around the corner from this school and I have a young son. Sonclose to home & scary!
