The Antioch Police Activities League (PAL) kicked off its 2015 Jr. Giants Baseball League Saturday June 27 as all the league participates were able to run from third base to home plate in front of friends and family.

This year, more than 600 kids will be able to participate in the league which costs roughly $13,000 to run for six-weeks of baseball.

Councilwoman Mary Rocha thanked the parents who made an effort to make a difference in getting the youth involved in activities. She also thanked the volunteers.

“I am in the spirit as I love baseball and love the San Francisco Giants,” said Tiscareno. “This program has been out here for a few years and want to thank the Antioch Police Activities League, the City Recreation Department and all the parents and volunteers. This is a great thing to have. I want everyone to have a great time, you want to win that is one thing, but make sure you have a fun time.”

IMG_2967Antioch Police Chief Allen Cantando thanked his Police Activities League Board and staff for organizing the season.

“The real clapping should be for the parents who are out here because we have a community that is strong, the parents care for their kids and makes our police departments job easier because you come out here and support your kids and those are the kids we are never going to see in the police department and that is a great thing so thank you so much,” said Cantando. “This program is 600 kids strong so thank you.”
