The Pittsburg Police Department confirmed via Social Media over the weekend that Zuleica Ruiz, a Senior at Pittsburg High School, was one of two teens who drowned in the Mokelumne River on Saturday afternoon.

Ruiz was 7-days away from her high school graduation.

The social media post stated:

The Pittsburg Police Dept would like to offer our thoughts, prayers, and condolences to Pittsburg High School Senior Zuleica Ruiz’s family and friends. She was a Police Explorer and a Foot Pursuit Running and Fitness Club member who had a bright future ahead of her. She will be dearly missed. Rest in peace Zuleica

According to the Sacramento Bee, The Amador County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call at 2:30 p.m. reporting that the pair had fallen into the Mokelumne River near the Moore Creek Campground and had never returned.
