Pittsburg School District Superintendent Issues Statement on Thursday Closure of Willow Cove Elementary

by ECT

With a threat of an explosion of a natural gas line, the following statement was issued by the Pittsburg Unified School District on the closure of Willow Cove Elementary for Thursday, October 18.

The incident has caused 4,000 people to be evacuated in Bay Point and CONFIRE said just before 6:00 pm they have no estimate as to when people could return home.

Contra Costa County Fire

Dear PUSD Community,

We are closing Willow Cove for school today, Thursday, October 18th. The area was evacuated during the night by Contra Costa County Fire and Pittsburg Police due to a gas line fire. The school is within the area deemed unsafe and there is no access to the school. Families who live in the area were evacuated to Pittsburg Bay Point Bart Station, Calvary Church, and Los Medanos College. There have been no reported injuries. Again, there is no access to the school. Do not go to the school today.

We are contacting Willow Cove families by phone to let the know school is closed today.

We will post more information on our Facebook page and website when we have any more details.

Thank you,

Janet Schulze, Ed.D
Superintendent, Pittsburg Unified School District
