Update: Pittsburg Police Seek Location of Suspect in Fatal Shooting

Early this morning at 10:08 A.M. Pittsburg police officers responded to a residence on Olivewood Drive in regards to an unresponsive male subject at the residence.

According Captain Steve Albanese, when officers and medical personnel walked into the residence they located the man suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper torso.  Both officers and medical personnel began lifesaving efforts on the man.

“The man, a resident of Pittsburg, later succumbed to his injuries on scene,” said Albanese.

Detectives are currently contacting witnesses and obtaining additional statements. Based on initial information, it appears the victim and suspect knew each other.

No other details were released and the name of the victim is being withheld pending notification.

According to Albanese, this is Pittsburg’s first homicide of the year.

Update

During the investigation Detectives were able to determine the victim,  Mark Gretler (61 years old) and suspect Rolando Aquino (61 years old), where roommates at the residence and have had confrontations in the past. It was determined during a confrontation Friday Aquino shot Gretler and then fled the residence in his vehicle.

Detectives were able to locate witnesses and review city video surveillance form both the City of Pittsburg and the City of San Pablo to aid their investigation.  Aquino was later seen on the City of San Pablo’s video surveillance system exiting his vehicle near the San Pablo Casino.

Late Friday evening Aquino was additionally seen in the area of San Leandro.  At this time Aquino’s whereabouts are unknown.  Detectives have authored an arrest warrant for Aquino and he should be considered armed and dangerous.

This is the City of Pittsburg’s first homicide of the year.

With a mug like that, how could this character not be found immediately? Unless he’s hiding out in the mountains …. Someone is really slow!
