Pittsburg Police File Murder Charges in Roommate Shooting Death

The Pittsburg Police Department announced Thursday that they have filed murder charges with the District Attorney’s Office after an argument led to the shooting death between roommates.

Pittsburg police said they have arrested Ryon Evan Wittlin, 47 of Pittsburg, on murder charges and that he remains in custody on $2 million bail. The victim has been identified as Nicholas Ryan Shaeffer, 23 of Fairfield.

Pittsburg Police said Wednesday that Wittlin turned himself in after shooting his roommate early Tuesday morning.

According to Captain Ron Raman, the incident began at 5:30 am Tuesday where Pittsburg Police officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Trident Drive.  Wittlin reportedly called police dispatch and stated that he had shot and killed Shaeffer after an argument.

“Officers arrived on scene and found the 23-year0old male victim deceased inside of the residence.  The suspect was arrested for murder and the firearm used has been recovered,” said Raman.

Police said the suspect and victim live at the location and the shooting was a result of an argument.

No further information has been provided.
