Pittsburg: Pedestrian Dies After Being Struck by DUI Driver

Pittsburg Police said that a pedestrian died Wednesday night after a vehicle struck him at 10:12 PM at the intersection of Harbor Street and School Street.

Officers were dispatched to a traffic collision involving vehicle that had struck a pedestrian at the intersection of Harbor Street and School Street said Captain Ron Raman.

“The pedestrian, male adult, was pronounced deceased on scene by emergency personnel,” said Captain Raman.

The driver, Alfred Chatmon, a 49 year old male Pittsburg resident, remained on scene and was cooperative with officers.  The pedestrian was crossing Harbor Street at the intersection of School Street when he was struck.

“Chatmon was intoxicated and failed field sobriety tests; he was arrested for DUI and vehicular manslaughter.  Chatmon’s license was suspended and he has prior arrests for DUI,” explained Captain Raman.

This collision is currently under investigation by Pittsburg Police Department’ Fatal Collision Response Team. Pittsburg Police said the pedestrian’s identify is not being released at this time.
