Pittsburg: House Choice Voucher Program Wait List Opening Online Lottery

by ECT

The City of Pittsburg Housing Authority will accept “on-line” applications for the Housing Choice Voucher program wait list (also known as Section 8), beginning Wednesday, February 8th, 2017 through Friday February 10th, 2017 each day between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. PST.

The list may close earlier, depending on the volume of applications received.

To apply, please visit the following link:  https://www.waitlistcheck.com/CA1295

Applicants can use any device with Internet access to complete the application, including mobile phones and tablets and most public libraries provide free internet access for application submission on-line. Applications can only be submitted on-line.

A confirmation receipt is issued immediately after the application is submitted.

Due to limited funding availability, not all applicants will be placed on the Wait List.  Applications will be selected and ordered using a random lottery system.  By randomly selecting the applications received for placement on the Wait List, the process is equitable.  Submission of an application does not guarantee placement on a Wait List, eligibility, or an offer of housing.

The time and date of receipt of the application on-line during the Wait List opening has no bearing on whether an application will be selected for the Wait List.  There is no need or advantage to applying immediately after the list opens. There is no cost to apply for housing and no documentation is needed at the time of application.

Out of the applications received, 5000 applications will be selected for placement on the Wait List. Once these 5000 application are selected, claimed preferences will be applied.  The applicants will be processed by the aggregate number of preference points for which the family is eligible and then by the lottery number randomly assigned to the applicant.

Applicants can check their status on the Wait List at the same website at: https://www.waitlistcheck.com/CA1295 beginning 3 weeks after closing.  Please do not contact the Housing Authority office for a status on your wait List application.

The approved Preferences for this Wait List are:  Residency and Veteran, Non-Residency and Veteran, Resident and Non-Veteran, Non-Resident and Non-Veteran.

IMPORTANT:  If your address, income, contact information or personal situation changes after submitting an application, it is your responsibility to notify the City of Pittsburg Housing Authority in writing of these changes.  If you fail to do so, and we receive returned mail for you, your application will be withdrawn from the waiting list. Address changes made only through the post office will not be acceptable notification to the City of Pittsburg Housing Authority of your change.

Remember:  You are signing up for a Wait List.  The waiting period to receive assistance could be years; this is not an emergency housing program.

If you are a person with limited ability to access the online application process, please contact the City of Pittsburg Housing Authority at (925) 252-4057 to request a reasonable accommodation before the February 8, 2017 opening.

Unfortunately my family and I do not live in Pittsburgh even tho we do plan on locating there. My family and self are going through a financial rough time and to make things even worse the place we have called home for the past 4yrs has been sold and the new owner wants everyone in the building to move within 60 days. They want to remodel, renovate and raise rent in all units without the option to come back. They want us to still pay rent and save to relocate. They are not going to help with relocation costs. We are on a fixed income and we have our 72yr old mom staying with us. We have tried to ask for financial help and we are on sec.8 wait list in the bankrupt city we are in and have been on the wait list for about 4yrs now but they say they can’t help until our number is called. I’m confused isn’t our situation a emergency for help???? My family and self are about to be homeless in a couple weeks. Isn’t our situation the reason why housing help exist????? I THOUGHT LOW INCOME HOUSING ASSISTANCE & HOUSING VOUCHERS ARE THEIR TO PREVENT HOMLESSNESS…WE NEED EMERGENCY HOUSING ASSISTANCE CAN ANY HOUSING PLEASE HELP US????
