by ECT

At 5:07 am Saturday, Contra Costa County firefighters responded to a report of a residential structure fire in the 1700 block of Bridlewood Dr off Glen Canyon Drive.

Firefighters arrived on scene to locate an exterior fire which got into the wall and into the roof from a marijuana grow.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, however, were forced to stop after realizing the home was still charged with power due to a bypassed meter. PG&E was requested.

According to radio traffic, PG&E had an arrival time estimated of 45-minutes–they arrived closure to an hour later.

According to Contra Costa Fire Investigator George Laing, he explained because the home was still charged, they were forced to pull all firefighters back for safety reasons.

He also stated that a neighbor walking his dog spotted the fire and reported it.

Laing could not confirm just after 6:00 am if there was a marijuana grow or how big it was, but stated Pittsburg Police were in the process of obtaining a warrant and more information would be released later Saturday.

As of 9:00 am, firefighters are still on scene and the roadway is blocked.

Update:

According to Pittsburg Police, the fire is believed to have been started as a result of an approximate 200 marijuana plant grow inside the residence. Pittsburg Police narcotics is actively investigating the incident. No further information is available at this time.
