At 1:58 pm, emergency crews responded to a T-bone style accident just off Lone Tree Way on Vista Grande Dr.  in Antioch that injured 8-minors and shut the road down as crews worked.

According to Battalion Chief John Kipp, there were 8-paitents altogether, 1 was flown from John Muir do to leg injury and spinal concerns. 2nd major grounded to John Muir, 3rd major sent to Kaiser with altered level of conscientiousness, 4-moderate injuries and 1-minor injury.

Upon arrival, Battalion Chief Kipp stated they had to do some triage because of the crowd that gathered to observe crews working. Once they identified the victims, they found one victim still trapped in the vehicle

“We had to cut the doors and roof off the vehicle to get the victim out,” explained Kipp.

Crews worked the scene for nearly 2-hours with Contra Costa County Fire Protection District Engines 82 and 88 responding with an assist from East Contra Costa Fire Protection District Engine 52. The incident also had both Antioch and Brentwood Police on scene including four ambulances and one helicopter.

Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be involved in the incident and Antioch Police are currently investigating how the accident occurred.

“This time of the year, it’s not unusual to have major accidents because of high school students celebrating the end of the year. People are not making good choices in their driving and its celebrating the end of the school year,” said Kipp. “We want everyone to have a safe graduation and be careful on the road.”

I understand you are going to cover accidents, but do you really need all the photos of kids hurt?

People pull out all the time without looking for traffic. Having kids involved just makes it more tragic. Come on people, think before you drive stupid, you might just save a life and also maybe yours too. There is a reason why there is a stop sign.

We absolutely have to get traffic officers back on the road. More and more of these wrecks every day. Run a light maybe? Ever count how many cars run each red light? It is frightening.

There is a blind spot at this left turn into oncoming traffic. The car that got t-boned was turning left and the car that hit them was going too fast and didnt even break. Both cars ended up on the sidewalk. Luckily no one was out walking at the time of the accident. I pass this blind intersection every day with extra caution. Speed bumps need to be installed and those shrubs need to be removed, they block the line of sight. I heard the accident from the house and saw the two hour ordeal afterwards. It took two hours to get the boy from the wrecked car. Sad.

The city of Antioch needs to come out and trim the shrub in the middle divider. Blind spot in both directions. I have problems myself seeing, if someone is crossing at that location and I have a SUV..
