Photos: Oakley Fire on W. Bolton Road

by ECT

East Contra Costa Fire Protection District had a nice save yesterday in preventing a chimney fire from taking out an entire house as they contained the fire pretty quickly leaving one side of the house damaged  The fire occurred around 12:45 at the end  of W. Bolton Road in Oakley. Four engines were on scene pretty quickly while the 5th engine made it pretty late in the game–I’d say about 40-45 minutes as an estimate.  What was also nice was the firefighters saved a vineyard from burning.

I will stress this again, we had four-engines (one from Antioch) on scene leaving the rest of our district with little to no coverage during the time of this fire. All it takes is a second incident of similar or greater status to highlight the need for more resources and additional stations opened.

Kudos to Bill Bower for the heads up so I could make it down there in time to snap some shots.

Burk is right, two fires in three days in Oakley. This is fire season, not the summer! People are using their fireplaces and these things happen. It’s when two fires or major incidents occur that people will regret voting down Measure S. This was a great save because the house should have been gone.

I love the photos.

Burk, Local 1230, CONFIRE, or ECCFPD should hire you to do their PR work. You have taken great shots of the last two incidents.

In looking at these photos, these guys are worth every penny and anyone who says otherwise needs to look at thse photos again! They are worth more than every penny because they saved a $500k home + vineyards.

Good PR shots. Good work too by the firefighters. It’s still their job so stop milking it.

@ Oakleyite Commener,

Go away troll.

It is important for people to be aware of the great service our firefighters provide. Obviously many people have no idea of the frequency of emergencies here. Now we are seeing it up close and personal (Thanks to Burk).

As for you troll, “Grow a ball”. We are on to you.

Good save. Burkholder, please report what happened, stop using these incidents as a political tool to promote a future parcel tax.

I second that Bobby

It’s his site, he can do what he wants. These are awesome shots.

I live in this house, well until this horrible fire. I’m glad you got some good photos out of this. Its a shame that you left out how my husband and I are now homeless and traumatized from this event that has changed everything. You could have introduced yourself and had some respect for our family in this horrible time.the firefighters were great to us. At least you got a nice photo shoot out of it.

burkforoakley Feb 9, 2013 - 11:45 am

@Deela,

I spoke with a woman in the vineyard during the fire who asked me to leave because it was her families house (not sure if that was your or not). I told her I was taking pictures of the firefighters and the house, but would not be talking about the property owners/family during the incident. She appeared okay with that explanation. The focus was going to be on the firefighters in order to respect the family during this horrible day. She appeared okay with that explanation and let me carry on.

I am very sorry for your loss and if you would like to share your story since the incident, I would love to allow you to get it out there. If there is anything I can do, please let me know and i can share that so others can send donations or other items you may need.

You said a mouthfull there Dee…Not anywhere in the article did they even mention how or who the residents were…Sure got enough pics of the fire fighters though….Ya, it is thier job to protect and serve when there is a fire and to help the people on the scene as well as the neighbors…Oh great, they saved the vineyard….THANK GOD FOR THAT…Good Job Fire fighters, Thank You for at least being curtious and professional to my Nephew and his beautiful wife and mother to be …We love and miss you guys Deela…Happy you three are O.K….You guys need ANYTHING please call us…..

burkforoakley Feb 9, 2013 - 11:46 am

@Hubbs, please see the message above. The focus was on the firefighters and I relayed that to the person I spoke with in the vineyard out of respect to the family which is why I did not give the address nor the names of the homeowners.

B-Wood Feb 9, 2013 - 12:03 pm

Burk,

You can’t make everyone happy. Some people just don’t get it…..never will. Obviously, this story was not meant specifically to be about them….geeeesh.

Thanks for the coverage/photos, thanks to the firefighters for a job well done and sorry for the hardships associated with the occupants losses.

*Let’s remember not to take this out on Burk or the Firefighters…..neither caused the fire. They were just performing a service.

B-wood has a fantasy with firemen. They are train ed to do what you think is a miracle. Any new fire tax still sucks and I will never vote for it because its all about the stupid greedy union. Good job firefighters. No new anyway. B-wood is a king of trolls.

B-Wood Feb 9, 2013 - 10:37 pm

@Oak Res,

That was your best retort? You certainly put the “I” in ignorance…

I called it a “job well done”, not a miracle. You on the other hand chose to discredit those that protect us and saved someone’s home while concurrently showing us your stupidity.

Nice try rookie. It’s way past your bedtime.

Oakley Res. Feb 10, 2013 - 4:49 pm

B-Wood should be the water boy for the firefighters. He likes to get close and personal. B-wood is probably a wanna be firefighter. It’s all in a days work but your fetish has me a bit worried about your stability and sanity. The Fire Department always does a good job. I do not discredit them at all. Unlike B-wood my nose is not up thier business.

B-Wood Feb 10, 2013 - 7:43 pm

@Oakley Res,

How old are you.. 5? Borrowing Mom’s computer again?

From your post(s) it is obvious you are a simpleton with a fetish & serious sanity issues. Come on dude, I am aware that you have a record of being rejected but the rest of the folks here just see you as a disgruntled troll. Then again you are welcome to keep posting and re enforcing it for all to see. (You are doing a helluva a job). You really think you are fooling anyone with your use of multiple screen names?

What a tool.

DENNIS HUBBARTT Feb 12, 2013 - 1:45 pm

THE FIREMEN DID THERE JOB, LIKE THERE BEING PAID TO DO, THE HOME OWNERS HAVE ALL THE PAIN FROM LOSS, THE REPORTER SHOULD OF FOUND THE CORRECT HOME OWNER AND SPOKE WITH THEM TO SEE IF ANYONE COULD HELP THEM IN THIS TIME OF NEED. THAT WAS MY SONS HOUSE, AND HIS WIFE IS PREGNANT, SO PLEASE HAVE SOME REPECT FOR ALL CONCERNED, THANK YOU, A LOVING FATHER IN WISCONSIN!!!!!!

burkforoakley Feb 12, 2013 - 2:42 pm

@Mr. Hubbartt,

I first want to say that I am sorry for your family’s loss. I do want to state the angle of the story was not to put your family in the spotlight, but simply focus on the firefighters. I’ve extended an invite to Deela to do a follow up and focus on them and see if we can get the community to help them out during this difficult time. I have not heard back. I can be emailed at [email protected] if she is interested.

B-Wood Feb 12, 2013 - 6:56 pm

@ “DENNIS”,

1. Lighten up dude, this is Burks site and he can post what he thinks is important and relevant to the community. (Too bad if it didn’t fit your parameters).

2. Yes, it is “their” Job, and there is nothing wrong with documenting it for communities that are suffering from emergency service cuts. When this happens the firefighters suffer as well. Yes, They are paid to do “their” job but like most, they have a right to rely on certain staffing for safety. Here in East County that is not the current situation which is most likely why Burk (the “reporter”) is documenting as he does.

3. It is/was public safety (Police and Fire) that have the responsibility to help your son/daughter in law during an emergency that they did not initiate or cause-not the “reporter’. Not sure how things work in Wisconsin but that is how it works here in CA.

4. This incident was posted in more than one blog and news story. Believe me, the “reporter” (Burk) was much kinder to your relatives that those elsewhere. If you want respect, you should consider giving it before demanding it.

5. I see at least two attempts by the “reporter” to offer help. I see no attempt by you or your family to take him up on it.

6. Your anger, as well as “cap lock” appears to be stuck in the on position. Both are an easy fix.

Is that what you were going for?

Sorry for the damage to your son’s home, but taking it out on others that did not cause it is disrespectful. There are many here (including the “reporter”) trying to get others to pay attention to the lack of public emergency services in hopes to prevent further tragedy; which could include loss of life.

We should all thank God that did not happen in the case of your family.

Frank S Feb 13, 2013 - 4:24 pm

Not sure what the beef is here with Burk, I see a bunch of photos about the firefighters doing their job instead of the family looking on in disbelief that their home is on fire. If Burk had posted one of those photos, I am sure all hell would have broken lose by now. You won’t please everyone so just move onto the next incident. I am sorry for the family’s loss, but not sorry for the reality this is a blog highlighting what is going on within the community. Reach out to Burk, I am sure he will do a nice follow up about the family and help any way he can.

Oakley Res. Feb 13, 2013 - 6:44 pm

This has become a childish blog with bone head wood being the leed idiot he is. Too bad every time bone head wood writes the blogs go south. Total dumbfounded idiot. Maybe when bone head wood shows respect, he may get some in return. Sorry Burke, but bone head brings out the worst in people.

B-Wood Feb 14, 2013 - 12:54 pm

@Oakley Res.,

“leed idiot”? The fact that you spelled lead as “leed” during your little hissy fit actually brought a little smile to my face. Talk about an oxymoron. Thank you for that, it was pretty damn funny!

Seriously though, are you trying to embarrass yourself with more delusional rants? If it is, you are succeeding.

Let’s review shall we?

Childish? I think that can be properly defined by your juvenile attempts at name calling. Ring any bells for you?

Hypocrisy (def). Hypocrisy is the state of promoting or trying to enforce standards, attitudes, lifestyles virtues, beliefs, principles, etc., that one does not actually hold and may even regularly violate.[1] (Hint; That’s You!)

Your behavior is also indicative of text book denial, which prohibits you from recognizing the obvious.

Its very clear that you brought out the worst in yourself-you did not need my help. Stop blaming others for all of your issues and take some responsibility.

P.S. By now I and everyone else know you are not one for details, however this website belongs to “Burk” not” Burke”. Looks like everyone else gets it but you. You might want to start by at least paying a little attention to what some might actually consider offensive.
