Photos: East County Welcomes Home US Army Sergeant John Martinez

A Welcome Home Celebration for US Army  Sergeant John Martinez occurred in Brentwood Saturday afternoon many friends, family, and military supporters in the community showed up to say thank you. We wanted to post the photographs of the event as a way for us to say thank you for serving this great country. Brentwood Mayor Bob Taylor was on hand along with Assemblyman Jim Frazier who presented Sergeant Martinez with certificates.

Kudos to all of those who worked hard to coordinate such a wonderful homecoming celebration.

About US Army Sergeant John Martinez

Sergeant John Martinez is a US Army Infantry Soldier stationed at Fort Stewart, Georgia. He is primarily responsible for training his team and conducting operations when deployed.

John has 5 years of experience in military service, including special training in combat, marksmanship and frontline duties.

John first deployment was to Iraq, September 2009. Where he served as an operator and rifleman with the 4th Stryker Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division, 2nd Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, out of Fort Lewis Washington. His second tour was to Afghanistan, October 2012, A Sergeant commanding a team from the 1st Brigade, 2nd Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, out of Fort Stewart Georgia. For the numerous operations that were conducted, John was responsible to prepare his team combat ready.

Sergeant John Martinez awards include: Two Army Commendation Medals (ARCOM) for heroism in combat, Combat Infantry Badge (CIB), Army Achievement Medal (AAM) and Army Expert Shooting Badge.

In 2007, John received his High School diploma from Antioch High. He then went to Los Medanos College for a year. In 2008, John enlisted in the US Army. John and his wife Sara married on May 11, 2009 and their son Dominic was born August 13, 2011.

A native of Antioch California, John lives in Savannah, Georgia with his family. When not working, John likes to relax and catch up on sleep, enjoys spending time with his family and friends, enjoys watching the Atlanta Falcons play, coordinates a fantasy football league and likes to target shoot.
