PG&E Promises to Fix Oakley Roads

Something not to be overlooked from this past Tuesday’s Oakley City Council is the fact Tom Guarino, PG&E East Bay Public Affairs Manager, admitted the roads caused by their construction have become a disaster even after they  resurfaced upon completion of their pipeline construction. Guarino vowed to the City Council to correct the problem within the next 4-6 weeks.

“Where should I begin, the bottom line is by the end of the month, our crews will be out there to commence the paving and we figure it will take 4-6 weeks, closer to the 4-weeks. We are excited about that… by the end of May, everything will repaved.” explained Guarino. “The paving will be attractive and apologies.”

He stated the problem was lack of coordination and communication with staff and weather.

Councilwoman Carol Rios stated this will be a really big issue if not done right on Neroly. She was referring to how the City  just repaved the road 2-years ago before PG&E came and tore it up. She explained how the road was a perfect road.

“My anticipation is it will be a pristine road… my expectation is to see it just as it was, we spent a lot of money and its gone and cant go back to maintain it,” said Rios.

Guarino understood her concerns.

“In all seriousness, we will guarantee at least the condition or better and you can hold us to that. You have our guarantee and our paving work is also guarantee on potholes within a reasonable time of 5-10 years. We will guarantee that,” said Guarino.

The construction that was performed as part of PG&E’s  pipeline safety program. PG&E replaced  a large gas transmission pipeline from its terminal off of Bridgehead Rd. heading south through the Cline Vineyard, moving westerly in Main Street and then heading south down Neroly Road. The $40 Million project began in late August and should be completed by the end of December.

About time, the alignment is out on my car because of Oakley road and Neroly, Main Street in front of Black Bear, Main street and Big Break road. So when is this going to get done, in two years like everything else?
