At roughly 6:15 am, emergency crews responded to a three vehicle accident on the westbound direction of Highway 4 that left one person injured and requiring a medical helicopter.
The accident occurred just east of the Hillcrest in Antioch which left both lanes blocked and three vehicles heavily damaged and undrivable. As AMR arrived on scene, according to radio traffic they stated three minor injuries, however, that was quickly changed to 1-critical upon CONFIRE arrival to the scene with a helicopter request.
First responders were first told the accident was in the eastbound direction before passing it and having to turn around which delayed response due to traffic. Our readers stated the accident backed up traffic passed the 160-Connector and to Laurel in Oakley.
By 7:34, all lanes of traffic were reopened according to CHP website.

That picture looks like a black Chevy Suburban not a Toyota Sequoia. Wow it looks bent in half. I hope all parties will be okay
It seems life flight is being used alot. Sutter Delta is just 5 minutes away. They call for life flight on minor injuries when the accident is south of Brentwood. It would suck if the person didn’t have insurance and paying for an ambulance and a life flight when they could have been safely taken by ambulance.
Joe Blow, there is a good chance that if that person had serious traumatic injuries they’d need to be flown to John Muir I’m Walnut Creek. In which case the flight would be very well needed for the patients outcome.
Awful lot of patients getting in accidents. What’s up with that. Shouldn’t someone else be driving them??
