One Dead, Another Shot in Antioch Jewelry Store Robbery

by ECT

At roughly 4:20 pm Friday, three males entered Hardy Nix Jewelers in Antioch on Delta Faire Blvd. which left one store employee wounded and one of the three suspects dead.

According to radio traffic, Kaiser Employees rushed to the scene to assist both shooting victims.

It’s unclear at this time if anyone else was injured. It appears one of the store employees shot back at the robbery suspects and hit one of them.

Check back for details, information is subject to change.

I wish the store employee a speedy recovery. What a shame.

At least we have measure C money we are paying to increase our safety. Geez I feel safe already. Especially when they use all that money to hire all 2 officers for our PD!

Kevin Johnson Apr 11, 2014 - 6:46 pm

You haven’t heard about the measure C money? Don’t count it yet! The new city manager wants to use / move those funds away from its intended use other than for more cops! It’s a crime in itself.

karl dietzel Apr 11, 2014 - 8:04 pm

in all fairness to the new city manager, by the way, he inherited the financial mess, but, measure c monies are going into the general fund, and can, and will be used for ALL city needs.
if you, or anybody else have any problems with that, go to a council meeting and talk to harper.

Kip Apr 12, 2014 - 7:35 pm

Yup, That’s what you folks voted on knowing full well they were not going to hire more police.

Jacquelyn Apr 11, 2014 - 6:25 pm

When they decide to reopen, it would be a great time to put our $$$ where our mouths are and support this fine locally owned business.

Sue Apr 11, 2014 - 8:51 pm

I think this city best look at all the crime it has and actually act upon it! There aren’t going to be any “good” businesses or “good” people coming to Antioch until the crime in this city goes down. I would love to know what the city manager or the city council for that matter wants to spend Measure C money. Put it where the problem is because until you take care of the shootings and killings in this city….NOONE wants to live here or visit here. Why do we have 20 dollar stores in Antioch? Because the well known stores don’t want any part of Antioch. Until you fix the main problem….guess what? This city is going to continue to go downhill until this city council and city manager wake up! I was born and raised in Antioch and to be honest I’m embarrassed to say I live in this city.

karl dietzel Apr 12, 2014 - 6:40 pm

there is a new dollar store going up on 10th street right now, right across the most visited kids park in antich. so much to planing .

Best to keep an eye on the city manager…is he the one that came from Hercules. That town went bankrupt and there were a number of city officials that were crooked.

The crime rate in Antioch is directly related to section 8 housing, until Antioch cleans up all the ghetto apartments and the associated drug traffic coming in from Oakland this sort of thing will only get worse, Antioch invited this sort of crime when they brought section 8 housing clients in from Oakland, I wonder whose brilliant idea that was?

Reginald Jamal Brown Apr 12, 2014 - 8:48 am

I completely agreed with your comment. People need to wake up and realize how the Black Plague has ruined our safety, home values, and peace of mind!

Amen!

It’s almost like it is a lawless town. As for the cops: some are corrupt, most are sissies or brainless, a lot of them spend too much time downtown focusing on homeless tweakers, and they have all been gettting rich off of an overtime scheme for years now. I feel so sorry for small business owners who face such danger. Especially the good people like the Perez family who have been here so long.

i_hate_antiich Apr 12, 2014 - 6:20 am

Exactly why I moved my family out of Antioch and none of my money tobthe merchants of that POS city…

Keith Apr 12, 2014 - 6:28 am

What does any of this have to do with the shooting victims and their families. You people show no remorse at all. Your all talking about money and Section 8 housing when someone was killed here. Granted it was the suspect, but that’s not on none of your minds.

Reginald Jamal Brown Apr 12, 2014 - 8:53 am

I think everyone is just tired of all the shooting and killing in this city. Everyone wants change. Anyone with eyes can see how this correlates with ghetto section 8 and a certain demographic.

To all of you complaining about Section 8. Where were all of you in 2006 to 2008 when the group, United Citizens for Better Neighborhoods (UCBN) was marching down Lone Tree Way demanding change and fighting the CC Housing Authority, Federal Glover & the Board of Supervisors, East County NAACP, certain members of the city council, and every other liberal group and individuals regarding the problems Section 8 had created in Antioch? I know exactly where you were. Hiding. Complaining but refusing to get involved. Sitting at home while others were fighting your battles for you trying to protecting the community. Where were you during all the community forums that were held to deal with the Housing Authority & Section 8 tenants who were terrorizing neighborhoods? You didn’t care enough then to get involved. But guess what, it’s way too late now. Of the individual citizens who fought to protect Antioch most have packed up and moved away. Of course there were those who thought the members of UCBN were racist because they stated in public that the vast majority of crimes were being committed by young black males which was true and supported by crime data. Imagine the surprise when the race baiters and poverty pimps discovered the leader of UCBN was a black man! Surprise, surprise. A black man who publicly supported the men and women of APD despite being called a sellout and a Uncle Tom by other blacks in Antioch.

Don’t waste your time people. Get out while you can.

hey keith, ill talk about the guy that was killed. How about this: im glad he got shot. Too bad his buddies arent laying next to him as well. how about that?

Kip Apr 12, 2014 - 7:42 pm

The suspect got what he deserved, end of story. I feel sorry for the store owner because he will have to live with that. Just think if more people fought back, Antioch might be a nice place to live again.

Alyahe Apr 13, 2014 - 3:45 pm

I am the victims sister in law and he was only 20 years old…. he was lured into doing this….. he was a great guy and took Care of my daughter and nephew and just tought them how to ride there bikes. So — ALL OF YOU. AND THANK YOU KEITH FOR ACKNOWLEDGING MY BROTHER

Antioch is Toast Apr 13, 2014 - 8:13 pm

Alyahe, no one made or coerced your brother in law into doing this unless he was mentally incompetent to make sound decisions. Unfortunately, he paid the ultimate price for his actions. Had he simply choose to not get involved in this criminal act, your family would not be mourning his death. He gambled with his life and he lost.

Antioch is Toast Apr 13, 2014 - 8:21 pm

In this sad situation, the blame belongs to the individuals that went to the jewelry store with criminal intent and the only innocent person(s) in this scenario is the customer who was shot and the business owner who was protecting property.

Once Again section 8 was brought to Antioch by landlords. No one else controls rentals that are rented to sec 8 except the landlords. No one can stop it except the property owners. Please contine to support the APD because that is all that you have. If they want to use measure C funds for other things except the PD then it is up to the people of Antioch to make sure that doesnt happen. It is your city keep working on taking it back from the criminals.

Dale Apr 12, 2014 - 9:24 am

It still amazes me that their is no talk of a Rental Property Fee for all of the landlords who are enjoying the HUD money, look at the fee income we could us to actually hire more PD

karl dietzel Apr 12, 2014 - 6:38 pm

the official petition to put the landlord rental business license fee on the ballot is on the books for the november election. 10,000 signatures need to be collected. so please sign the petition and the people of antioch can vote on that issue in november.

Exactly why everyone should have the opportunity to protect them selves any way possible. This is why Californians should stand up for their 2nd amendment rights!

Mark Jones Apr 12, 2014 - 1:00 pm

That Jewelry store owner is smart for arming himself and killing that Piece of Garbage… It saved his life for sure…. The only time the APD has ever saved the life’s of anyone I know was NEVER…

Chuck Apr 12, 2014 - 2:54 pm

Good news for the good guys. Poor Antioch has its hands full. They need to limit section 8 money until this crisis is under control.

Andrew Apr 12, 2014 - 3:16 pm

Throwing money at the problem won’t fix it. There is plenty of money to run a safe efficient city but the leadership sucks. Antioch leadership needs to think how we can raise property values, not more affordable housing. Idiots.

da kid Apr 17, 2014 - 9:11 am

yu dnt got to ghetto to live in section 8 bit since you guyz all holy why dont yall help tha onez on s8

Antioch is Toast Apr 18, 2014 - 10:47 am

Why don’t learn how to write and speak proper English and just maybe someone will consider helping you. For goodness sake, it’s this kind of generational stupidity that has caused society to erode into complete insanity.

Reginald Jamal Brown Apr 18, 2014 - 3:20 pm

@da kid

wow… really? go back to school, grown folks are talking. I bet $500 that once you hit 18 you’ll be on section 8 from cradle to the grave.

Go back to Oakland or Richmond or E. Palo Alto with your type.
