Here is a look at events going on this weekend in east Contra Costa County.


8:00 am: Mulch Available for Oakley residents
Need some wood chips/mulch for your landscaping? Wood chips will be available for
pick‐up tomorrow Saturday, October 22nd from 8:00 ‐ 11:00 a.m. at the City
Yard located at the corner of Neroly Road and Main Street (entrance on Neroly)


9:00 am: Antioch Police to Host Gun Buyback
On Saturday, October 22, the Antioch Police and the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office will host a gun buyback program for Contra Costa County residents who can anonymously turn in guns.

The event will be held at the Contra Costa County Fairgrounds in Antioch located at 1201 W. 10th St.

  • Up to $50 for non-operational
  • Up to $100 for small caliber rifles
  • Up to $150 for shotguns
  • Up to $200 for handguns and large caliber rifles
  • Up to $350 for assault weapons as classified in the State of California

All payments are in Target Gift Cards and the funds are limited and subject to availability and proof of residency will be a California ID, Drivers License, utility bill, etc. For more information, call (925) 779-6977.


10:00 am: Hot Rods for Paws

On Oct. 22, you are invited to attend the Hot Rods 4 Paws 2016 – 3rd Annual Presented By KINGS Antioch Car Club. The event is being held at Petco at 5841 Lone Tree Way, Brentwood.

Car registration ($25) – starts at 8am – All year, make and models welcome.

Event goes from 10-2pm – FREE to the public which includes Cars, Pets, Vendors, Food, Kids Zone, Animal Adoptions, Costume Parade, Music

All proceeds goes to support Furry Friends Food Relief Program. Their goal is to help families in need with their pets, whether it be food, vaccines or assisting with spay and neuter.


10:00 am: National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day

(Washington, DC) – DEA reprises this weekend one of its most popular community programs:  National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.  On Saturday October 22 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. the public can dispose of their unused, unwanted prescription medications at one of 4,700 collection sites nationwide, operated by 3,800 local law enforcement agencies and other community partners.  The service is free of charge, no questions asked.
The public can find a nearby collection site by visiting www.dea.gov, clicking on the “Got Drugs?” icon, and following the links to a database where they enter their zip code.  Or they can call 800-882-9529.
Local Departments include:
  • Antioch Police Dept. – 300 L St.
  • Brentwood Police Dept. -9100 Brentwood Blvd.
  • Pittsburg Police Dept. – 65 Civic Avenue

Only pills and other solids, like patches, can be brought to the collection sites—liquids and needles or other sharps will not be accepted.


10:00 am: Antioch Animal Services Costumes for Candy

Bring a bag of candy and choose from a large selection of costumes and accessories at Antioch Animal Services located at 300 L Street (next to Antioch PD).  The event will occur between 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. Attendees can choose from a large selection of costumes and accessories (first come first serve).


October 22-23: Tall Ship Visits Antioch
Tours: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. ($5 donation)
Adventure Sail: 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. ($47/$39)

Antioch, Calif. – Following on the heels of tall ship Hawaiian Chieftain’s visit to Antioch this week, the brig Lady Washington has scheduled a stop at the city’s public marina October 18 to November 1. The ship is offering walk-on tours, more public excursions, and educational programs for booking by schools. Here’s her public schedule


4:00 pm: Brentwood Police Tip A Cop
Join the Brentwood Police Department as they host a Tip A Cop Event to raise funds for Special Olympics today at Red Robin at the Streets of Brentwood. 100% of all tips given will be donated to the Special Olympics.

6:00 pm: 2016 Contra Costa Winegrowers Vintner Dinner ($95)

Please join us for the 2016 Contra Costa County Winegrowers Vintners Dinner being held on October 22, 2016 at 6:30 PM, This event will be hosted at Tess’s Community Kitchen in Brentwood. Arrive to live music and cleanse your palate with a wonderful glass of Sparkling wine on the patio admiring views of Mt. Diablo until Chef Edward calls us to the tables for dinner.

6:30 pm: Antioch Speedway Weekly Racing Series 2016 Finale
Join the Antioch Speedway as they host a night of racing that includes Wingless 360 Sprint Cars, A Mods, B Mods, Late Models, Limited Late Models, Hobby Stock and Dwarf Cars.

Adult 13+ Ticket: $15.00

Oct. 23:

hook-line-and-sinker-img_7483Sunrise: Hook Line & Sinker Fishing Tournament
The Hook, Line & Sinker bass tournament circuit is a low cost circuit for the amateur angler. The entry fee of $70 per team includes cash awards for the top 7 teams, plaques for the top 3 teams in each tournament and a hot dog BBQ after each tournament. At each tournament we also have a young angler raffle for our participants age 16 and under. A portion of the entry fee is also used to host the Tournament of Champions and tri-trip BBQ for the anglers at the end of each year. This is a great place to start if you want to fish professional tournaments or if you just want to have fun!

10:00 am: Furry Friends Food Relief Clinic

Furry Friends Food Relief Program has announced multiple events this fall in their efforts to help local animals stay in homes or find forever homes. All vaccinations are $5, $10 Flee Treatment & Micro-chips, free de-worming and free food. All puppies and kittens need to be vaccinated every 4-weeks until they are 4-months old.

The clinic check in time start at 10:00 am – 11:00 am or the first 80-people located at 1300 Central Blvd #E in Brentwood.

1:00 pm Pride of the Delta Restaurant Tour

The Kiwanis Club of the Delta invites the public to participate in its Pride of the Delta Restaurant Tour sent for Sunday, Oct. 23 from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Tickets are $15.00.

The restaurant tour will allow participants to sample food from Antioch’s restaurants.

The tour includes:

  • Bo’s Coffee – 204 G Street
  • Panera Bread – 5897 Lone Tree Way
