Here is a look at local events occurring in East Contra Costa County on Saturday, October 15, 2016 in Antioch, Brentwood and Oakley.


8:00 am: 2016 Monster Dash 5K & 1 Mile Run
The Drama Factory has announced they will host their 1st Annual Monster Dash 5k run/walk on October 15 at Contra Loma Regional Park in Antioch.

This event is a Halloween-themed athletic event for all ages that includes a 5k run, a one mile run, and a children’s costume parade through Antioch’s scenic Contra Loma Regional Park. This is a fundraiser that helps keep the performing arts accessible to the community.

The event includes a finisher’s ribbon. The first 5k overall male and female finishers will be awarded a plaque.  The first overall male and female in the 1 mile event will receive medals.
Costumes are encouraged, but optional.  Spectators are also encouraged to wear a costume.

8:30 am: Kids Fishing Derby (Antioch Pier)
 Registration begins at 8:30 am at the Antioch Marina (1 Marina Plaza) for the free kids fishing derby hosted by the California West Delta Chapter Striped Bass Association. The event will run from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and participants from ages 7-to-14 can fish for free which includes bait, lunch and drinks. Participants must bring their own fishing rods.

9:00 am: East Contra Costa Fire Open House
eccfpd-open-houseThe kid friendly event will allow youths to tour the fire station, explore the fire engine, learn about home safety. Youths will also be able to try on firefighter gear. According to the District, this event is designed to allow the community to meet local firefighters and see what they do at a fire station. Smokey the Bear will also make an appearance.

As part of the open houses, youths between the ages of 5-13 can enter to win “Fire Chief for the day” contest where they will shadow Chief Henderson for a portion of the day to see how the fire district operates.

Join the John Marsh Historic Trust as they present a free event to get an up-close look, inside and out of John Marsh’s 160 year old mansion. The event will feature kids activities all day,
Scheduled Presentations include:

  • 9:00 am: Opening Welcome
  • 9:30 am: Hike steps off
  • 10:00 am: presenting Dr. John Marsh
  • 11:00 am: Archaeology presentation
  • 12:00 pm: Stone House History
  • 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm: Brentwood Concert Band

  • 2:30 pm: Professional ropers/Vaqueros

10:00 am: Antioch Women’s Club Fall Boutique
Join the Antioch Women’s club from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm for their Fall Boutique which includes crafts, soaps, jewelry, towels, bags, accessories, scarves, baby items, unique gifts for Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and all seasons.

11:00 am: Free Family Fun Picnic
Join the Leo Fontana Lifetime Achievement Foundation as they host a free family fun picnic from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Contra Loma Estates Park at Mahogany Way and Manzanita Drive in Antioch.

The event, which is aimed for middle school students (open to all) will include hot dogs, chips, water and cookies. There will also be old fashion games and activities which include egg race, tug ‘o war, sack race, three legged race and balloon toss..

Lunch is from 12pm to 1:00 pm with games from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.


12:00 pm: Oakley Harvest Festival
The City of Oakley will host the Annual Harvest Festival tomorrow, October 15th from noon to 4:00 p.m. at the Civic Center Plaza, located at 3231 Main Street. Admission is FREE.

Children, adults, and even our canine friends are invited to come in costume and march in one of the two parades through the park. Bring a pre‐carved or decorated pumpkin to enter in the contest. Like pie? Register at the City of Oakley booth upon arrival to the festival to get to participate in the ʺPie Eating Contestʺ.

There will be vendors, jump houses, arts & crafts, as well as dance and cheer performances throughout the day! Donʹt miss out on the fun!

  • 3:00 pm: Pie Eating contest
  • 3:15 pm: Pumpkin contest — judging

5:00 pm: Antioch Cruise Night
You are invited to visit downtown Antioch for a one night only “cruise night” which includes downtown shops staying open late, sales, and classic cars riding down the street between 5:00 pm to 11:00 pm.  Areas of focus will be 2nd Street from A St down to L Street.


6:30 pm: Antioch Speedway
Join the Antioch Speedway as they host a night of racing that includes Wingless 360 Sprint Cars, A Mods, B Mods, Late Models, Limited Late Models, Hobby Stock and Dwarf Cars. Gates open at 5:00 pm.
