Oakley: Vegetation Fire Burns 5 Acres on Honey Lane, 2 Taken to Hospital

At 9:21 pm Monday, the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District responded to a report of a vegetation fire in the 600 block of Honey Lane in Oakley.

IMG_5291Firefighters arrived on scene to a vegetation fire threatening several homes with wires down on a property. As crews arrived on scene several horses had to be evacuated from the property as a precaution.

Engine 52 immediately began a fire attack as a home began to catch fire and quickly extinguished causing only minor damage to a home. The IMG_5282vegetation fire burned 5-acres.

According to Chief Hugh Henderson, the fire was contained to approximately 5-acres with two residents who were transported to local hospitals with smoke-related injuries.

The District used all four engines to contain the fire. He also stated the District received aid from Contra Costa fire with the fire task force which was canceled on scene.

At 11:35 pm, Engine 93 was called back to the scene after a flare up occurred. They quickly extinguished the fire without incident.

The fire is currently under investigation by the Oakley Police Department with a possible cause of fireworks.

Great job firefighters. I still think reserves and poc’s would have made for safer less stressful weekend.
