Oakley: Strong Natural Gas Smell is from PG&E Scheduled Pipeline Work

At 4:00 pm Friday, several Oakley residents and businesses reported a strong smell natural gas smell and “jet engine like” sound in the area of Main and Big Break Road.

PG&E was immediately contacted to investigate.

According to Tamar Sarkissian, PG&E spokesperson, PG&E is in the area conducted planned safety work to upgrade the safety and reliability of their natural gas system.

Sarkissian says PG&E crews will be working on a pipeline today – Friday, October 2 – at Bridgehead Road in Oakley and Delta Fair Station in Antioch. There are no planned natural gas service outages during this work.

As PG&E safely completes this pipeline enhancement project, the smell of natural gas may be noticeable to nearby homes and businesses, depending on wind direction. The natural gas will quickly dissipate into the atmosphere and will not be harmful.
