According to Safewise, they have listed the “Top 50 Safest Cities in California” and the City of Oakley is the lone East County representative coming in ranked at No. 41.

Their list was made up based off data as of 2011.

We’ve examined data from the most recent FBI Crime in the U.S. Report and married it with our own thorough research to produce a comprehensive list of the 50 safest cities in California, with 20,000 residents or more, as of 2011.

Here is what they said about Oakley at No. 41

Despite the fact that it’s one of the state’s youngest cities, Oakley exudes the charm of more established communities. With safety on its side, and a landscape that abounds with rolling hills, orchards and vineyards, it’s no wonder Oakley regularly welcomes newcomers looking for a suburban oasis. Oakley is serious about growing a strong local economy too. If you’re a business owner considering a move to the blossoming city, you’ll want to take advantage of the resources offered in its New Business Guide.

And you won’t want to miss the wealth of classes offered through the city’s ED2GO online program. From computer applications to personal development, and even certification programs, Oakley takes your desire for enrichment seriously. If your kids want to start working on their interpersonal and work skills, Oakley’s Junior Recreation Leader Program is the perfect opportunity.

The top 10 included:

  1. Saratoga
  2. Rancho Santa Margarita
  3. Los Altos
  4. Aliso Viejo
  5. Temple City
  6. Laguna Niguel
  7. Moorpark
  8. Lincoln
  9. Danville
  10. San Ramon

Thank you to the staff at City Hall and to Oakley Police Department for keeping us safe. So much for Brentwood being the shinning model of East County. Maybe folks can learn a few things from Oakley’s leadership.

The stats are only as good as what the police report to the bean counters. Every crook that gets away is not counted and therefore makes the city look safer. It looks good on paper but Oakley is headed down the same road as Pittsburg and Antioch. Cancer always spreads unless you cut all of it out first.

Did they consider how many dogs were shot in this analysis?

D.B. Minion maybe you should check out the UCR (Uniform Crime Report) for the City of Pittsburg. Pittsburg’s crime rate is at a 50 year low according to the news and the FBI. I’d probably have Oakley follow the road Pittsburg is on and just steer clear of Antioch.

I included the article link if you care to look at it.

It is nice to see Oakley police getting some much deserved respect as they are treated like a step child by neighboring cities. They do a great job with their resources and do not even allow people to spit without giving a ticket. I love our tuff police force.

Yep the city is serious about building a strong local economy–just look around at all the new businesses. Since 1999 what have they done?

Finally had dinner at Carpaccios-will never go back!!!!!! The food was awful and the place was dirty! Spider webs on the hanging lights, baseboards dusty and the 2 piles of dirt/dust in the corners of the window. damage on the wall and the carpet not repaired. YUCK!

For why Nov 20, 2013 - 1:42 pm

Glad you enjoyed your dinner

Thanks for the report Barbara. I will make sure that I don’t dine at Carpaccios in the future. I thought I might check it out at some point, (never been there) but after reading your post I will pass.

Nothings worse than a dirty restaurant.

41st is very very good for Oakley, considering it borders one of the top 50 most dangerous cities, LOL

I agree. Antioch is the city where the criminals are protected and the garbage elected.
