This week, the City of Oakley held its first Public Works Open House as part of National Public Works Week where around 250 students from local schools attended.
The celebration of the National Public Works week draws attention to the important contributions of public works professionals to citizens’ daily lives, including the planning, building, managing and operating of the infrastructure in the community.
Oakley Elementary School and Vintage Parkway Elementary School participated in the Open House celebration, along with teachers and many parents. A goodie bag (containing a public works coloring book, pencil, and other fun items) was prepared by staff and given to all students at the end of the program.
The Public Works Open House was held at the Civic Center parking lot along the Civic Center Park where staff provided information and performed demonstrations about the wide range of services that the department provides for the community.
The program covered three main areas of operations: Parks, Streets and Engineering/Capital Projects. The City’s electrical maintenance contractor also participated in the program and brought their resources for the demonstration.
