The Oakley Police Department announced the arrest of Elbert Kirby, 27 of Oakley, a suspect in a burglary Sunday morning.

Police report that around 5:40 a.m., Oakley police officers were dispatched to an alarm at a commercial business in the 2500 block of Main Street. Officers arrived minutes later to find the business had been burglarized, with entry made through a unique method. The suspect had climbed onto the roof of the business, then gained access to an adjacent vacant business. Once inside the vacant business, the suspect used power tools to cut a hole through the wall of the targeted business. Once he had cut a hole, the suspect then entered the business and while gathering property, set off the alarm.

According to police, crime scene investigators were called in to process the scene while officers examined the crime scene. They found blood from where the suspect likely cut himself, which was collected for DNA Comparison. One of the officers then recalled a nearby incident involving a subject who he felt may be involved in the crime. The officers visited the nearby home finding an individual who was covered in building insulation, had an injury matching the blood found at the scene and who happened to be in the possession of property taken during the burglary.

The subject, Elbert Kirby, a 27 year old resident of Oakley was arrested and booked at the County Jail on burglary charges.

Oakley Police are now working to connect Kirby to other burglaries in the area.

Great police work. Elbert get a real job after you get out of prison. What waste of a 27 year old.
