What is the obsession with Section 8 on this site? Does anybody have official statistics on crimes, who is committing them and how their housing is paid for?

That’s a serious question. I really am interested in whether or not all this complaining about Section 8 has some basis in truth. While I would think that higher crime rates could come with Section 8, is it as bad as those like RJB and The Dude think it is? It doesn’t necessarily follow that a person who receives housing assistance is automatically going to run out and burgle or rob.

That said, is there abuse in Section 8? I’m sure there is and there should be ways to correct that. However, I’m also sure that would mean more people having to be employed by the government to do follow-up and ways to get the situations corrected case-by-case. One size fits all solutions rarely fit anybody.

I grew up in antioch over by Walmart. During that time we didn’t have crimes like this . There were no shopping carts in residential areas, there was no school shootings. Section 8 list was full in SF, Richmond, Oakland, etc., so they gave them vouchers to move to antioch and told them they’d have to live out here for a year . They were able to get section 8 out here around 2006/2007. It went down hill from there. Downtown antioch as always been a mess, but over by lone tree, was just fine! And this is a fact. I worked at a homeless shelter so I know that much. I always have an aunt that works at a school in SF, and she told me she had a mom that came out here for section 8 for a year then moved back . Unfortunately not all move back ?

I’m an Army veteran on section 8, going to college…wait a minute, what does this have to do with section 8? Sounds like whoever is blaming section 8 families should take the clan meeting to another site. You civilians crack me up with this petty blame game stuff. Stop being racist and generalizing your fellow American’s (here we go with the immigration talk). Want to make a change? Do something about it and police your community, stop making excuses.

Your last sentence says it all.

Most people here are talking about the ghetto hood rat section 8 that take advantage of the system and do nothing but terrorize neighborhood. Section 8 for veterans and disabled people have a true reason to be on the program. No one mentioned race except you. And believe me there are many people who would love to “police their neighborhood”.

Cradle to the grave section 8 ghetto hood rats need to go.

… against all enemies foreign or domestic right?

Anon Too I will give you a perfect example how section 8 impacts our city. I have been a resident of Oakley going on 45 years in the year of 2008 the city of oakley built a section 8 apartment building next to Raley’s just 2 blocks from my home. Shortly after we started to notice our mailboxes in the area we being tampered with and packages gone missing. One morning as I prepared to leave for work I opened my garage to warm up my car @ 5:30 am I walked back into my home only to return 5 minutes later to a empty garage my car was stolen from inside my home! After reviewing my security cameras you can clearly see 2 males walking from the direction of the apparentments and into my garage and off with my car you can guess the race.

Crime is everywhere, but Oakley is a nice, low-crime town. We’re happy here. Besides Discovery Bay, the only place I’d live in East county. Maybe Brentwood – not sure.

Let me guess, they were human race…..
