Oakley Police Department Introduces New K9, Koda

by ECT

On Tuesday, the City of Oakley introduced Koda, the newest member of the Oakley Police Department.

Koda is a 7-year-old German Shepherd who was purchased by the City of Oakley for $1 (a savings of approximately $40,000) when his human, Officer Del Prado, recently joined Oakley PD.

Koda is a certified law enforcement dual purpose dog for both patrol and narcotics. He served with the El Cerrito Police Department for the past 4 1/2 years. Prior to law enforcement, he was a demonstration dog for a company in Belgium who sold working dogs internationally.

According to the City of Oakley, Koda loves children and has provided demonstrations at numerous schools, churches, citizen’s academies, and Tri-City safety events. When Koda is not working, he enjoys visiting local parks for long walks, playing with his chew toys and relaxing at home where he lives as a member of the Del Prado family.
