Oakley Police Cars Now Equipped with Defibrillators

by ECT

The Oakley Police Department is committed to public safety and maintains a progressive approach to supporting our mission. Sudden cardiac arrest is one of the leading causes of death in the United States each year. An Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is the only effective method to restore a regular heart rhythm during such a medical emergency.

Every minute defibrillation is delayed reduces the chance of patient survival. The American Red Cross believes that everyone should be within four minutes of an AED and someone trained to use it.

The Oakley Police Department recently partnered with Contra Costa Emergency Medical Services to become recognized as a Public Safety AED Service Provider. Oakley Police Officers have undergone training on the proper use and deployment procedures for an AED. Our Officers will now have AEDs available to them while on patrol so they will be better equipped to respond to a cardiac arrest medical emergency anywhere in the community. It is my sincere hope that the availability of an AED will afford us the opportunity to save someone’s life. Previously, we were less prepared for such situations.

While I would prefer the use of an AED is not required, I am happy to report we are now more prepared and better equipped in the event it is.

Enjoy good health and stay safe,

Chief Dan Gomez

Being an American Heart Associationot CPR/BLS instructor for law enforcement officers I am glad to hear this. Oakley PD has come a long way and now with even more training they can not only fight crime, but also save lives
