Oakley: Pedestrian Struck by Train Killed, Possible Suicide

by ECT

On Saturday May 21, the Oakley Police Department responded to a report of a person being struck by a train at 10:30 pm.

Police, East Contra Costa Fire and AMR were dispatched to Main St. and Big Break Road and then to the area of Main St. and Bridgehead. The pedestrian was located about 200-yards west of Big Break Road and was determined to be deceased by AMR.

On Sunday, Oakley Police were in the process of notifying the family, but did say the pedestrian was a transient and believed it was a suicide after the subject was sitting on the tracks as the train approached.

No further details were provided.

Suicide Prevention

There’s a myth that people who talk about suicide won’t really do it. This is wrong. Before attempting suicide, many people make direct statements about their intention to end their lives or less direct comments about how they might as well be dead or that their friends and family will be better off without them. Any reference to suicide should be taken seriously.
