by ECT

On Tuesday, the Oakley Police Department announced that the District Attorney’s Office has filed murder charges against an Antioch man in Saturdays stabbing death.

On June 3rd 2017 at 4pm, Suspect Phillip Wade (38 years old from Antioch) and Victim
Anthony Johnson (57 years old from Pittsburg) were involved in a verbal argument on the
Tri Delta Transit bus traveling through the City of Oakley.

The bus stopped on Main Street near Empire Ave at the Tri Delta Bus Stop where the two subjects continued to argue and then began to physically fight. The fight continued outside of the bus when Wade retrieved a knife and stabbed Johnson.

Johnson attempted to flee and was chased down by Wade as he was stabbed numerous times.

A nearby citizen, who observed the altercation got out of his truck and approached the altercation with a firearm and ordered Wade to stop. At that point Wade complied.

Wade was then detained by responding Oakley Police Officers who responded to the call. Police also detained the citizen armed with a firearm for a short time as they investigated before later releasing him.

East County Fire personnel and Paramedics with AMR treated Johnson on scene where he was transported to John Muir Medical Center.

Johnson later died of his wounds.

During the investigation, Officers developed enough information to arrest Wade for murder and he was booked at County jail in Martinez.

This was Oakley’s first homicide since June of 2015.

No further details were released.

Below is an entry from a previous Antioch City Manager Report when they still provided the police briefs.

Man Arrested After Brandishing Weapons, Resists Arrest
On 7/10/2015 at 4:19 pm, officers responded to 2500 Somersville Rd. on the reports of a brandishing. Three victims reported they were seated in a car in the parking lot between Chevron and Macy’s when they were approached by 36 year old Phillip Wade. Wade told one of the victims he needed to keep his woman in “check”. None of the victims knew what Wade was talking about and they asked that he leave them alone. Wade pulled out a pocket knife with his right hand and a stun gun with his left hand and brandished them at the victim’s while threatening them. Wade walked away as the victims called 911. Officers found Wade nearby and arrested without incident. He was transported to the county jail. While at the county jail, Wade became furious, stood up from a bench and charged at an officer. A short struggle ensued and with deputies’ assistance, control was regained of Wade. He was also booked for resisting arrest.

What this article leaves out is that this Phillip Wade guy stabbed a 23 year old man in 2011 and then a 49 year old homeless man to death in 2013. How did this man stab someone in 2011, KILL someone in 2013, and be out of prison to kill someone else in 2017?

Either the California justice system is INCREDIBLY skewed or there’s something missing here. Did he even get time for the first stabbing? What happened after he MURDERED someone 2 years later?

The 2013 killing was ruled self defense for some crazy reason.

There is a lot sick homeless people,
some on drugs and some mentally unfit due too them on drugs, are being born too drug addicted parents. either way they are very dangerous and should be forced into drug intervention programs and not allowed to roam the streets until tragedy happen. and be let back out to repeat this behavior over and over again.

Try getting someone in a treatment center…..extremely hard to do….most insurance does not cover it….and they are extremely expensive

I agree…from the write-up in the newspaper his friend started he only did a few days in jail for the murder in 2013… I don’t understand

They detained the armed citizen? Love how they played it down, that this perp was stopped by an “armed” citizen. I hope this man still has his firearm. I want him living in my neighborhood!
