Oakley: Koda Dog Park Opening Day is June 30

by ECT

The City of Oakley is inviting the community to join them for the Grand Opening of Koda Dog Park on Saturday, June 30 at 10:00 am.

Koda Dog Park is a 2.5 acre park named after a public vote in honor of the Oakley Police Department’s current k-9 officer. With the opening of Koda Dog Park, Oakley’s four-legged friends will have the first designated off-leash park in the city and all are invited in the ceremonial ribbon cutting that will commemorate this event. However, the city requests that all dogs be on a leash for the duration of the brief program.

The park is located next to the existing Nunn Wilson Family Park at the corner of Laurel Road and Brown Road. Koda Park features fenced areas for both small and large dogs, play and agility equipment, turf, drinking fountains, dog waste stations, restroom, parking lot, and a shaded picnic area. The park’s namesake, Koda, is a 7-year-old German shepherd and a member of the Oakley Police Department who keeps the city safe alongside his partner, Officer Joshua Del Prado.

In total, the cost of the dog park is estimated around $1.2 million. Back in 2016, the City of Oakley received a $413,000 grant for a Community Dog Park. The city is contributing just over $764,000 in park impact fees.

Koda, and all of Oakley’s dogs will be welcome to enjoy the park daily from dawn to dusk after the June 30 opening.
