At 6:02 am Sunday, the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District responded to a commercial fire on the 2400 block of Rubens Way in Oakley.
Upon arrival, firefighters observed smoke from the garage of a two-story home where the resident’s garage was a converted bedroom. The fire was primarily extinguished by the sprinkler system.
The fire caused moderate smoke, minimal fire and major water damage to the garage.
The probable cause was listed as a discarded cigarette.
