At 1:58 am Sunday, East Contra Fire Protection District crews responded to a auto accident where a vehicle struck a light pole on O’Hara Avenue and Chianti Way in Oakley.

Engine 54 and Engine 94 arrived on scene to find a heavy damaged vehicle fully involved with one patient laying on the ground away from the vehicle. Fire crews quickly worked to extinguish the fire that left a vehicle completely destroyed.

The patient was airlifted to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut creek after sustaining major multi-system trauma.

According to ECCFPD, several signs and light poles on school property were destroyed and the cause appears to be excessive speed.

Fire crews were on scene for nearly 2-hours.

Editors Notes:
Due to a medical call (W. Acme St) that came in a few minutes prior to the accident, Engine 93 (Oakley) was unavailable which is why Engine 94 (Knightsen) and Engine 54 (Bentwood) were the two responding engines.
