Mona, an English bull dog, was rushed to the Emergency Pet Hospital February 7 after ingesting something that poisoned her.

According to Erin Pina, her dog is a very happy and is a healthy two year old dog that got sick in a hurry. After getting sick, Mona was lethargic, unsteady on her feet and would not eat.

Upon being seen by a local vet, x-rays saw no blockage, however, blood was taken which showed that all of her organs were shutting down—the Dr. believes the dog was poisoned.

Mona was immediately started on IV medications and oral medications to stop what was transpiring and to further prevent liver and kidney shutdown. The dog also was having seizures as a result of the poisoning.

As of Sunday, Mona is showing signs of improvement, however, she was still considered in the critical stage but moving in the right direction.  By Monday, she was eating again.

As of Wednesday, her kidneys and liver were back in normal rangers, however, she continues to show signs of an internal infection and is bleeding somewhere causing anemia and the blood is being passed through her stool—blood work is being done daily. The seizures have also continued.

Pina contacted the Oakley Police Department to report what happened; however, due to her not knowing who did it they can’t do anything at this time. They then directed her to Animal Services in Martinez who provided her with a similar response.

Her goal now is to raise awareness.

Pina says her home backs up to Vintage Parkway and within the Vintage Parkway Facebook Group, others have also come forward stating their dogs were also poisoned—one case may have occurred just two days earlier.

Folks in the Vintage Parkway area should check their backyards for foreign objects which may have been thrown into ones yard in order to hopefully prevent other dogs from getting sick. If you see anyone acting suspiciously, please contact Oakley Police.

There is a special place in hell for anyone who intentionally hurt an animal.

Sounds like the dog could have also eaten a Sago Palm. Many people and vets do not know how toxic they are. It begins to shut the organs down quickly. Home Depot is just now staring to but tags on the Sago stating highly toxic to animals. I lost my dog to this last December
