At 4:42 pm, the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District was dispatched to a report of a water rescue after it was a reported that a human body was in the canal in the intersection of Main Street and Road Avenue.
According to Oakley Police, a body was located of a subject who had been in the water for what appeared to be an extended period of time.
The Contra Costa Sheriffs Marine Patrol was dispatched to assist in the recovery and were able to pull the body from the canal.
According to a release by the Oakley Police Department, the investigators believe the victim likely climbed the fence to gain access to the canal for water, and likely fell into the water and that they believed there was nothing to indicate tehre was any foul play associated with the incident.
Police say investigators are now working with the Coroner’s Office to identify the victim and notify next of kin.
Oakley police are asking residents who may have been in the area of the Rose at Main Canal Overcrossing to report if they saw anyone near the fence line or climbing over the fence line in the last few days.
