Oakley: Almond Grove School Opening in 2014-2015?

Here is something flying under the radar that should the numbers work out it would be a great thing for Oakley. It also highlight that the economy is improving, Oakley is growing and how Proposition 30 is already having a positive influence locally. Hat tip to Samie Hartley of the Brentwood Press who is reporting that the Oakley Union Elementary School District Board of Trustees is expected to direct staff to begin preparations for the opening of Almond Grove Elementary for the 2014-15 school year.

The issue will be disused at Wednesday’s  meeting.

Hartley reports that Superintendent Rick Rogers estimates that the district will spend $350,000 in preparations to open and maintain the school for the first year. The district will use money from its reserve funds, and Rogers is confident that funds allocated from the recently approved Prop. 30 will help the district open Almond Grove and keep it open.

“We wouldn’t move forward with the opening of the school if we didn’t think it was financially feasible,” Rogers said. “The last thing we want to do is open the school for a year or two and then shut it down. Taking a year to get the school ready will afford us the time to keep an eye on the economy to ensure this is the right decision.”

Maybe they can get those “Oakley Orphans” out of Antioch School District then.

Unless there is realignment they will continue to be in AUSD. If Seeno is allowed to build new homes on Buchanan those hundreds of children will be in AUSD also. Doesn’t make much sense.
