Oakley: After Man Falls From Ladder, Firefighters Complete Paint Job

by ECT

On Friday, the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District firefighters responded to a male who fell off a ladder on Piper Lane in Oakley.

The incident occurred at 2:56 pm where they arrived on scene to find a male injured after falling off a 15-ft ladder inside a home. They treated the male and he was transported. They say he is expected to be okay.

After the ambulance left, they helped the women clean-up which included paint that had spilled. They say the ladder gave out because no one was footing the ladder.

Firefighter Dean Miller climbed up the ladder to check for tools when he noticed the paint job was not complete. He grabbed what was left of the paint and began painting the wall to complete the job and do some touch up work for the family.

Captain Gil Guerrero stated it was the right thing to do, noting they were available on the radio should another incident come in.

“We performed a quality service by cleaning up the paint mess and painted the high wall,” said Guerrero. “It was the right thing to do given the situation. We were just trying to help out where we could and felt bad for the family.”

Nice gesture, but huge liability had one of the firefighters done accidenral damage or been hurt. Sorry to be the voice of reason, but this could have been a Big liability for a district that can’t afford it.

Such a nice thing to do. It’s the little things that reflect going above and beyond to do what’s right to a complete stranger.
