National Weather Service Issues Heat Advisory Through Sunday in Contra Costa

On Friday, the National Weather Service issued a heat advisory that is in effect from 8:00 am Saturday through 9:00 pm Sunday.

The alert is for the San Francisco Bay Area where triple digit temperatures are expected with a high of 105-degrees.

HEAT ADVISORY FROM 8AM PDT SAT UNTIL 9PM PDT SUN …HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 8 AM SATURDAY TO 9 PM PDT SUNDAY… THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA HAS ISSUED A HEAT ADVISORY, WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 8 AM SATURDAY TO 9 PM PDT SUNDAY.

* LOCATIONS…THE NORTH BAY MOUNTAINS AND THE EAST BAY VALLEYS.

* TEMPERATURES… FOR HIGH ELEVATION AND EXTREME INLAND LOCATIONS, TRIPLE DIGIT AFTERNOON HIGH TEMPERATURES GENERALLY RANGING FROM 100-105 DEGREES ARE EXPECTED. FOR HIGH ELEVATION LOCATIONS ONLY, OVERNIGHT LOWS WILL STRUGGLE TO COOL BELOW THE 70S. MORE SEASONAL TEMPERATURES CAN BE EXPECTED NEAR THE COAST WITH ABOVE AVERAGE TEMPERATURES ELSEWHERE.

* TIMING… SATURDAY MORNING THROUGH SUNDAY EVENING.

* IMPACTS…PROLONGED EXPOSURE TO THESE TEMPERATURES WILL INCREASE THE RISK OF HEAT RELATED ILLNESSES, PARTICULARLY FOR VULNERABLE POPULATIONS. PETS AND LIVESTOCK MAY ALSO REQUIRE EXTRA CARE THROUGH THE WARM WEATHER. HOT, DRY WEATHER WILL INCREASE RISK OF HUMAN SOURCED WILDFIRE. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS

ACTIONS… A HEAT ADVISORY MEANS THAT A PERIOD OF HOT TEMPERATURES IS EXPECTED. PROLONGED HEAT WILL CREATE A SITUATION IN WHICH HEAT ILLNESSES ARE POSSIBLE. DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS…STAY IN AN AIR- CONDITIONED ROOM…STAY OUT OF THE SUN…AND CHECK UP ON RELATIVES AND NEIGHBORS.
