Motorcyclist Sustains Major Injures in Early Morning Byron Highway Crash

At 4:04 am Thursday, the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District responded to Byron Highway for a reported vehicle versus motorcycle accident.

Upon arrival, Engine 59 located a single motorcycle versus vehicle accident with two patients. The motorcyclist was suffering from major injuries while the second patient driving a vehicle had minor injuries.

ALS care was provided to the motorcyclist by AMR and a medical helicopter was requested. It landed in the area of Byron Highway and Byron Hot Springs Road where the motorcyclist was airlifted to a local hospital. The second patient was transported by ground to a local hospital.

According to the ECCFPD, initial reports are that the vehicle crossed into the path of the motorcycle at a high rate of speed. The exact cause is still under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
