Morrow Announces Run for Ironhouse Sanitary District Director

by ECT

OAKLEY, CA – Oakley resident and community advocate Dawn Morrow announced Monday that she has officially kicked off her campaign for one of three open seats on the Ironhouse Sanitary District Board of Directors.

“I am excited to take on this challenging position,” remarked Morrow. “We have a wonderful community in our service area with state of the art facilities and a great recycling program.”

Her priorities upon gaining the board seat will be fiscal responsibility, open communication, and environmental responsibility.  She hopes to protect water quality, expand the uses of recycled water, and protect the delta while working to keep the district budget in check.

Morrow believes she distinguishes herself from other candidates with her knowledge of industrial plants, including wastewater treatment. The candidate spent 20 years as a Journeyman Millwright. As the first woman to complete the Northern California Millwright Apprenticeship, she overcame many challenges, and learned great communication skills along the way.

She and husband Brad (also a millwright of 35 years) moved to Oakley in 1993 to start a family. Morrow left her millwright career to study graphic design at Los Medanos College, which enabled her to work from home and raise their two now grown daughters.

Since college where she earned a certificate in graphic design, Morrow has worked for 15 years helping small business and local non-profits thru identity design and social media marketing.

Morrow attended the City of Oakley’s first ever “Citizens Academy” in 2014 and says it gave her the desire to get more involved.  The candidate noted, “City leaders urged us to look for a board or committee that matched our skills and interests.”

“With my unique skill set I understand what it takes to oversee a state of the art wastewater treatment service and an engaging leader keep the public involved along the way.  I can be an informed advocate for ratepayers” said Morrow.
