More than 75 Animals Removed from Two Antioch Homes

by ECT

The Antioch Police Department and Animal Services are investigating two homes where more than 75 animals were removed this past week.

On July 17, 2017 at approximately 1830 hours, Contra Costa Fire Department requested Antioch Police Officers to respond to a residence in the 1800 block of Terrace Drive after a reported kitchen fire.

Upon arrival, Officers learned there were approximately 50 cats inside the house. Animal Control Officers responded to assess the situation. The residents and Animal Control Officers worked together and collected a total of 46 cats.

Animal Control Officers have gone back to the residence three more times in an effort to trap the four cats left in the area.

On July 20, 2017 at 1529 hours, Antioch Police Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 900 block of Barnsley Court for a welfare check on animals inside the house. Officers ultimately discovered there were numerous cats, dogs, ducks, rabbits, doves, and a rooster in the home.

Animal Control Officers responded to assess the situation. The residents and Animal Control Officers worked together and collected 27 of the animals. Animal Control Officers followed up today and trapped 2 more cats with approximately 12 more in the home.

Both incidents are still under investigation and the animals are currently housed at the Antioch Animal Shelter located at 300 L Street. Animal Control Officers are working with local rescues to find homes for all of the animals.

I hope all those cats were well taken care of. The one in the photo looks frightened but OK. They are such great animals.

Animal hoarding is unhealthy. I hope the animals are okay.

I’ll bet the houses smelled like heck. The two we have around my house sure do. Very unhealthy situation for everyone.

Julio — All living creatures emit odors! Cats are the cleanest animals. They bury their waste, they clean themselves (grooming) with the cleansing and conditioning hormones produced by their glands. If well taken care of, they do not spread diseases, while quite a few animals do.

I’ve gotten a whiff of a bunch of humans that had such a pungent odor that it made me gag! They smelled far worse than any cat ever did and they used the sidewalk to do their business.

If your cats smell bad then you’re not taking proper care of them. If they develop an odor, then have the vet check them out. Get their teeth cleaned by the vet and ask how often that should be done for the particular cats .. that’s a start and then brush their coats several times a week. Cats are wonderful animals who have been with us for hundreds of thousands of years. We domesticated them. They depend on us.

Yes, but not 567876446 in the same house! Common sense.

Jesus…….Well, that depends on the size of the house, don’t you think?
