At roughly 12:08 am Sunday morning, East Contra Costa Fire Protection District crews responded to a single vehicle rollover which left one person dead and one patient with moderate injuries.
The incident occurred at the “S” curve south of Byron Hot Springs Road in Byron. Upon arrival, crews spotted the vehicle which had rolled over off the roadway. One victim was pronounced deceased on scene. A second victim was flown to John Muir Medical Center for treatment.
Engines 59 and 54 responded to the call along with BC5, AMR and CALSTAR.
The incident is being investigated by the California Highway Patrol, however, James Etchells, 60, of Antioch has been identified as the driver who was killed in a vehicle rollover in Byron on Sunday. According to law enforcement, the vehicle rolled over multiple times.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Jim’s family and friends especially his son. I had the great fortune to know Jim very well he was my brother electrician and a friend. May God guide you to his heavenly kingdom and be forever at peace JIm.

it was my honor susan. i just wish i could have been speaking about some award he was receiving. i truly miss him and thank you for your kind words. i know its hard to get up and speak but i was truly thankful to the many family and friends that showed.
