Medal of Valor Awarded to Two Sheriff Deputies After “Ski Beach” Incident

The Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff announced that two deputies were awarded Medals of Valor after saving two lives during an incident at Ski Beach.

According to the Sheriffs office, the weekend was crowded, chaotic, and noisy. During the weekend,  a driver of a personal watercraft ran over two swimmers.

Deputy Jeff Hagstrom saw a female victim panicking and struggling to keep herself another man afloat. Without regard to his own safety, Deputy Hagstrom immediately dove in the water to grab hold of the unconscious man. Deputy Lance Morrison dove in to assist in the rescue. Deputies Hagstrom and Morrison swam with and pulled the man with the help of two good Samaritans, onto a Marine Patrol boat which had a paramedic onboard. Deputy Hagstrom swam back and rescued the female. Deputy Hagstrom willingly placed himself in danger in order to save both person’s lives.

In recognition of Deputy Jeff Hagstrom’s valiant efforts and his overall dedication to the Office of the Sheriff and the citizens of Contra Costa County, the Office of the Sheriff proudly awards Deputy Jeff Hagstrom the Silver Medal of Valor and awards Deputy Lance Morrison the Bronze Medal of Valor.
