Meals on Wheels Diablo Region (MOWDR) held their annual Volunteer Appreciation Event on Thursday, November 1st at the Brentwood Community Center. The event celebrates the and hard work and dedication of over 1,500 MOWDR volunteers throughout Contra Costa County.
The harvest-themed event was attended by over 150 MOWDR volunteers. Guests enjoyed a fall-inspired lunch, raffle prizes, and entertainment by local favorite Zeke Nuez.
During the event, Brentwood Mayor Bob Taylor presented the Volunteer of the Year Award to Lou Leardini for his unwavering spirit of volunteerism in the East County community. Local dignitaries Supervisor Diane Burgis, Assemblymember Jim Frazier’s District Director, Erica Rodriguez-Langley, and Congressman Jerry McNerney also took the stage to say their thanks to MOWDR volunteers.
There is still a dire need for regular and substitute Meals on Wheels volunteer drivers in East Contra Costa County, and you can make a difference with only an hour or two a week – less as a substitute!
