8:00 am: Brentwood Farmers Market
Join the Brentwood Farmers Market which runs every Saturday now through November 19 on Oak Street in Brentwood. The market runs from 8:00 am to noon.


9:00 am: Animal Adoptions Event at K & Co Family Jewelers
K & Co Family Jewelers of Brentwood has teamed up with the animal community in an effort to promote pet adoptions in East Contra Costa County. On Saturday, May 21, pet adoptions will occur outside the store at 741 2nd Street in Brentwood. The partnership was formed after K & Company Family Jewelers recently adopted two kittens from HALO.

9:00 am: 16th Annual Youth Conference & Empowerment Summit
Everything from how to find a job or preparing for college to how to make a film to dating relationships will be offered to the youth who attend the 16th Annual Youth Conference & Empowerment Summit Formerly known as the Youth Summit, this year’s countywide gathering of young people from 6th grade through high school, will discover that have a plethora of new offerings for their workshops, an integral part of the summit, which will be held at Pittsburg High School on May 21, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Here’s a sampling of the other 40 workshops being offered:

  • Dance movement
  • Developing trust
  • Navigating the media maze
  • Healthy relationships
  • Empowering youth to change communities
  • Find your voice, find your ‘hustle’
  • Building a rocket
  • How to cope with violence
  • Access to new technologies
  • How to build a robot
  • The alcohol industry’s marketing towards youth
  • Trademarks of an effective leader

Besides the workshops, there will be inspirational speakers, entertainment, raffle prizes and dozens of resource tables. Before the program starts at 9 a.m., a light breakfast will be available so it is advised to arrive early.

9:00 am: Oakley Relay for Life
Freedom HS, Oakley

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life movement is the world’s largest and most impactful fundraising event to end cancer. It unites communities across the globe to celebrate people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and take action to finish the fight once and for all. With the support of thousands of volunteers like you, the American Cancer Society is helping save more than 500 lives a day. Please join us and take action against a disease that has taken too much!


11:30 am: Antioch Fire Truck Dedication
Today, the Antioch Historical Society Museum will introduce its hand-drawn fire wagon hose cart and a restored 1926 Ford Model T Fire truck, both donated to the museum.

In addition to learning the history of Antioch firefighting, the new exhibit will feature fire safety information especially geared to children and families, as the museum will welcome school groups and residents for tours during regular museum hours; Wednesdays and Saturdays from 1 to 4 p.m.

The public is welcome to watch the official dedication ceremony at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 21 on the museum grounds at 1500 W 4th St. The Historical Society will offer free hotdogs, soft drinks and ice cream to the first 300 visitors. The museum will offer tours between 1 – 4 p.m. after the dedication.

1:30 PM: Pittsburg Historical Society & Museum Member Appreciation & Sign Dedication
Public Invited:This event is to say “thank you” to all the members of the historical society and also to dedicate the Camp Stoneman WWII sign. All enlisted army personnel, who served in WWII or Korea and lift from or came back from Camp Stoneman, passed beneath their sign.

2:00 pm: El Campanil Hosts The Diamonds Classic Rock & Roll With Today’s Attitude

Through the years since the release of Little Darlin’ THE DIAMONDS have learned one important lesson—the durability of this classic rock and roll music is as much about the future as it is about the past. As a result, THE DIAMONDS continue to expand their audience to this day, performing in a variety of venues and settings worldwide. These performances include—with Symphony Orchestras, in Performing Arts Theatres and major concert halls, on cruise ships, in casinos, at county and state fairs, on tours of England, Ireland, Brazil, Chile, Korea, and Japan, for benefit concerts, corporate conventions and at nightclubs. “We’ve been pleased to find a growing audience among all age groups. 6:30 pm: Antioch Speedway
This week’s races include Winged 360 Sprints, A Mods, B Mods, Limited Late Models, Dwarf Cars, Hardtops. Gates open at 5:00 pm with racing starting at 6:30 pm.
