Here is a look at the weekend events in East Contra Costa County which kicks off the series of Relay For Life events. Meanwhile, don’t forget, the Contra Costa County Fair is in town this weekend at the fairgrounds.


 

8:00 am: Brentwood Farmers Market
The 2017 season will run every Saturday through November 18  located at First Street between Oak and Chestnut.


9:00 am: Pittsburg Farmers Market
Join the Pittsburg Farmers Market Saturdays from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm between May 6 through October 21 located at Railroad Ave between 5th and 6th Streets.


10:00 am: Oakley Relay for Life
Join the Oakley Relay for Life Saturday at Freedom High School (1050 Neroly Rd Oakley, CA) as they kick off the event with a survivor lap at 10:00 am.

The event is aimed at uniting communities across the globe to celebrate people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and take action to finish the fight once and for all. By walking around a track or path for up to 24 hours, individuals and teams raise money and awareness to help the American Cancer Society save lives.

Dollars raised support groundbreaking cancer research, education and prevention efforts, and free information and critical services for cancer patients who need them.

Survivors and caregivers are invited to kick off the event, a special lap is held to celebrate cancer survivors, followed by a lap in honor of caregivers. You and your caregiver are invited to join us for these laps and to stay for the rest of the event.


11:00 am: The Northern California Boat Show
The event will be held on Saturday & Sunday from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm at the Discovery Bay Yacht Harbor which will feature cruisers, yachts, ski and pontoon boats. Will include live music, food and spirits. (5901 Marina Blvd, Discovery Bay)


10:00 am: Antioch: Relay for Life Survivor Celebration Car Show
On Saturday, the Somersville Towne Center (2556 Somersville Road, Antioch) is excited to team up with Antioch Relay for Life Survivor Celebration to host the first Annual Car and Motorcycle Show! The event is $25 registration for vehicles that want to participate.

11:00 am: Delta Discoveries at Big Break Regional Shoreline
Discover the wonders of the Delta through hands on arts and crafts activities! Each week we will explore different wetland wonders. No registration required; Drop-in program.

Located at Big Break Visitor Center at the Delta at 81 Big Break Road, Oakley, CA.


11:00 am: Contra Costa County Fair

ANTIOCH – Contra Costa County Fair is in town this weekend at the Contra Costa County Fairgrounds in Antioch on W. 10th Street at L Street. The fair opens at 11:00 am

The Contra Costa County Fair is the perfect place to enjoy live entertainment, exciting free shows, delicious food, carnival rides, animals, and hundreds of exhibits – all in a community-friendly environment and at affordable prices!

On Saturday, Military/Law Enforcement and their families with active ID will receive FREE Admission.

All concerts are FREE with admission to the Fair.

While visiting the Fair, enjoy other highlights such as the Xtreme Sports Zone, Jennifer’s All Creatures Petting Zoo, Clown & Balloon Artist, Jugglers, Harmonics Steel Drum Band, Powerhouse-Percussive Dance, Ag Venture Land, BC Characters, Cowboys Ken’s Train, Art Pavilion, Agriculture Pavilion, Auto Racing, RC Car Races, Roller Derby much more!

12:00 pm: Contra Costa Winegrowers Association Passport Weekend
The Contra Costa Winegrowers Association is hosting its Passport Weekend on May 20-21 to showcase the multiple award winning wines of Contra Costa County.

The event, which is broken up into two-days due to geography is $20 which is good for both days.

7:00 pm: Spring Concert – Brentwood Community Chorus
A Choral Spring Concert. The Brentwood Community Chorus will present a full repertoire of music for our audience.
Featuring the DELTA DAWNS Barbershop Quartet
Special medley from the Music Man
A family event – bring the grandparents too!

7:00 pm: Antioch Speedway
Antioch, CA…Racing will continue during the Contra Costa County Fair at Antioch Speedway. On Saturday night, Wingless Spec Sprints and B Modifieds will be racing.  This will give racing fans an opportunity for a taste of auto racing and county fair activity prior to the Memorial Day Weekend break.

8:00 am: El Campanil Hosts Taylor Made “Unplugged”
Taylor Made, The James Taylor Tribute Band, consists of a group of musicians who are dedicated to bringing the uplifting, soulful and memorable sounds of the legendary singer-songwriter to be enjoyed in any setting. Paying close attention to the details of each song, this distinctive group has crafted a sound that captures the live and recorded experience of listening to James Taylor in concert. The next best thing to JT himself!

This special presentation of  ‘Unplugged’ Taylor Made is dedicated to an intimate version of the band where guitar, bass, percussion and the occasional hornperform many of the tunes that the full band plays.  This show is like hearing the classic tunes of James Taylor as if they were played in your living room!

The Delta Strummers Ukulele Band is returning to the famous El Campanil Theatre in Antioch to present “Ukulele Uprising II” at 3:00pm on Sunday, May 21, 2017.
