Man Armed With Shotgun Takes His Own Life in Livermore Police Station Parking Lot

by ECT

On Thursday, March 3, 2016, Livermore Police officers responded to the report of a missing suicidal adult. The suicidal adult was reported to be armed with a firearm.

Livermore Police conducted a search for the missing suicidal adult but were unable to locate him. Around 3:00 a.m., as Officers approached the back parking lot of the police station, Officers noticed the suicidal person was sitting in his vehicle just outside the Police Department’s back gate.

As Officers approached the subject to check his welfare, they saw that he was armed with a shotgun. Officers immediately retreated backwards. As they were retreating, the subject fired the shotgun, causing damage to the back window of his vehicle. Believing they were being shot at, one officer returned fire.

After a short time trying to call out to the subject and getting no response, officers approached the vehicle and discovered the subject was deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

No officers were injured as a result of this shooting.

We are in the early stages of this investigation and are unable to provide any additional details at this time.

We plan to provide an update to this investigation at 10:00 a.m.
