Livermore Police Officer Shoots and Kills Suspect Holding Shotgun

by ECT

On August 16 at 8:50 pm, the Livermore Police Department began receiving calls into the Dispatch Center from residents in the area of the 1300 block of Via Deste.  The callers reported a subject outside acting bizarrely and challenging people to fight.

When officers arrived on scene the subject refused to obey commands and retreated into a residence and armed himself with a firearm.

As officers began negotiating with the subject he made suicidal statements and several shots were fired from within the residence.

A crisis negotiator was on scene and engaged the subject in conversation and began trying to calm the subject.  The negotiating went on for a considerable amount of time.  Nearly two hours after the first call was received a fire was lit inside the residence.

Shortly after the fire was lit the subject came out of the residence holding a shotgun.

Officers fired at the subject who was hit and went to the ground.  Emergency first aid was performed, but the subject was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The Fire Department was able to extinguish the fire inside the residence.

No officers were injured in this incident.  No other persons were inside the residence.

The name of the subject, and the names of the involved officers, is not being released at this time.

This is an ongoing investigation involving Livermore PD investigators and investigators from the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office.   LPD will have the next statement available at 0400 hrs.
