Liberty Union High School District to Close Schools on Friday Due to Air Quality

by ECT

The Liberty Union High School District announced that due to air quality concerns, they will close schools on Friday, November 16.

Dear LUHSD Family,
Due to the unpredictability of the poor air quality, LUHSD will be closed on Friday, November 16th. This closure will be in effect for all students and staff. All outdoor extra-curricular activities will adhere to North Coast Section by-law 1003H for the remainder of our November break. All winter season sports activities will be suspended on November 16th.
This decision is not taken lightly. But in balancing the safety of over 8,300 students staying home versus the prolonged exposure to an Unhealthy Air Quality Index for all of our community, LUHSD feels it is in everyone’s best interest to close school. A loss of a school day is nothing compared to the loss of those to the north of us.
All decisions regarding instructional minutes recovery, and other contractual ramifications will be made in the coming days. I hope you all enjoy your upcoming Thanksgiving break.
Sincerely,
Eric L. Volta
Superintendent, Liberty Union High School District
