Letter: Teacher Supports Measure K, Says Libraries Help Create Successful Communities

by ECT

Dear Editor,

I am a 6th grade teacher, father, and small business entrepreneur. Since 2003, I have tutored over 100 different local students.  All of my roles benefit from being able to access the Oakley library. From accompanying my own kids for story time, taking my son to use the computers to do taxes, and tutoring countless students there, I know first-hand how important a library is the success of a community – how it serves as a resource that can change based on everyone’s individual needs.

A regular library user, I am always excited to see young people leaving with stacks of books. There are many who believe we live in a digital age where kids are getting every bit of their information from the Internet, but there is still such a strong need for solid information from books.  There is no better resource than a library to find all of it in one place.

Over the years I have watched my students grow, learn, achieve, and succeed. Our Oakley library is a safe, quiet, resourceful place for anyone to come and learn, be entertained, and escape for a while. Whether checking out a great book for fun or utilizing the library’s resources for learning, it truly is a community resource which will benefit from growth and expansion.

I urge Oakley residents to vote YES ON K and support a New Oakley Library and Learning Community Center for our downtown. Together we can build a better community!
