Letter: Diane Burgis Thanks Supporters in Supervisor Race

Dear Editor,

It’s finally Election Day. That means it’s time to say thank you and take a moment to reflect on the last couple of months.

I am honored to have had the privilege and rare opportunity to meet thousands of my neighbors and community members, and hear their stories as a candidate for Contra Costa County Supervisor. I am so grateful to all of those that gave the campaign their time as we sat down at kitchen tables and talked in the grocery aisle, in offices or on people’s doorsteps.

My heart has grown a few sizes as I have met extraordinary people who are absolutely dedicated to their community. People who are willing to fight for what is right, take time out of their busy day and work diligently to make their community a better place. It gives me great hope for our community.

I am proud of what we have built here in East County and I am committed to helping us meet our potential. I look forward to what we can accomplish tomorrow, once the hard work of campaigning transitions to the hard work of governing. That statement stands regardless of how the votes tally up tonight.

I particularly want to thank everyone who has joined my campaign and gave countless hours in defense of our community. People like Supervisor Mary Nejedly Piepho, District Attorney Mark Peterson, Sheriff David Livingston, Congressman Jerry McNerney, Superintendent Tom Torlakson, dozens of local leaders and our bravest citizens: our sheriffs, firefighters, nurses and police.

Together, we pushed back against over $100,000 in out of district money. And I believe we were successful in amplifying our community’s voice.

We were able to cut through all of the special interest noise and talk about what we really need: faster fire and emergency medical response times, more effective community policing, a pristine Delta, a balanced budget, a strong public transportation network and reduced traffic – and a representative that will give everyone a voice.

If you haven’t voted yet, please do. Polls close at 8 p.m. and can be located at www.cocovote.us.

I hope you will join with me in fighting for East County by voting Diane Burgis for County Supervisor today.
